At first in the womb begins our lives; we were nothing but a geometrical form. We began as a sphere called a zygote, a single-celled form, which later divides to form a sacred geometrical shape called the human body. It is associated with the belief that God is the geometer of the world, who created everything in a geometric plan.
The human body is so designed by nature with geometric proportions, which is proved by a great philosopher, artists Leonardo Da Vinci in "Vitruvian man" that is humans could fit into both squares and circles.
Geometry is referred to as "geo" earth, "metron" a measurement, is concerned with line, shape, space. While geometry is basically formed by line, this line is nothing but a flow of points. Here, I mention points or dots as a cell where our life begins and develops as a complete human with a gigantic appearance. As cells, point plays a significant character which results in lines and develops different forms and shapes such as square, circle, triangle etc.
A circle or a sphere is associated with the fullness of life, a cube with the oneness of the body, mind, and soul. Half circle embodies the qualities of universal love. Finally defining the "triangle", where the human mind’s origin in geometry is related to the three Gunas of life (attribute of nature according to Hindu philosophy) are SATTVA GUNA, RAJA GUNA, TAMO GUNA.
SATTVA GUNA is a state of harmony, balance, joy, intelligence, positivity, divine, purity, pleasure.
RAJA GUNA is a state of change, longing, attachment, selfish desire.
TAMO GUNA is considered as darkness, inactivity, negativity, impure, pain.
Even though three Gunas plays a major role in human life, philosophy educates us to follow the disciples of Sattva guna. Sattva guna reduces the defeating qualities of the other two Gunas when one attains the state of Yogi/ Yogini. Yogi refers to the sacred feminine force made incarnate as an aspect of Parvathi as a neutral masculine or feminine sense.
Along with the support of a philosophical theme, here I am interpreting my canvas by how I indulged the relativity of geometry and human.
Art is an act of visualising which results from an individual’s experience and knowledge. The fundamental artist process requires learning and experiences, which should be experimented with materials that according to me results in more ideas being generated.
The importance of materials and technique has come to me through my inheritance as my father is an artist so also was my grandfather. It is now a passion for me that enthusiastically marks my interest in continuous experiments with different media techniques and styles, which process inspires me to continue with experimentations.
My experiments concern understanding colours, geometric shapes and sizes, lines and their varied angles and curves, the relation of figurative imagery to space, all of which gives me an understanding of the area I work on and their positioning in space.
In exploring these basic elements I create abstract compositions with the vocabulary of imagined shapes, forms, colours and lines. My exploration of abstraction as a visual language has been inspired by great modernist pioneers as Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinsky, and Piet Mondrian.
My experiments and study with the geometry of abstract forms have gradually led me to look at the kaleidoscope as a point of reference and as a device that creates beautiful forms, patterns, geometrical shapes and colours. The geometry of brilliant colours and juxtaposition of shapes appearing in rotating the kaleidoscope has conceptually inspired me to derive creative ideas expressed through my individual style and technique. The visual vocabulary of kaleidoscopic shapes, forms and colours has inspired my present series of works in which movement provided the dominant focus.
With the representation of abstract, geometry and kaleidoscopic view, I am wholly appealing to the concept of Sattva guna in the painting with the use of visible vibrant colours and shapes to define the joy, intelligence, positivity, divine, purity and pleasure which lowers the effect of other two Gunas.
